Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universtität Kaiserslautern-Landau

The Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität [Rhineland-Palatinate Technical University] Kaiserslautern-Landau consists of the campuses in Kaiserslautern and Landau. The campus in Kaiserslautern is located on the edge of the Palatinate Forest. Tomorrow’s young professionals are growing up on the approximately 50 soccer fields of land; among them are more than 3,000 foreign students who have chosen to study here.

The Rhineland-Palatinate Technical University Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) combines the engineering and natural science orientation of Kaiserslautern with the humanities and social sciences of Landau. RPTU is the only university in Rhineland-Palatinate with a technical and scientific orientation. Future-oriented degree programs, practical training and a modern infrastructure are the framework conditions that students find at the campus university. The university was awarded the Excellence Prize for study and teaching in the nationwide “Excellent Teaching” competition. In doing so, the RPTU is demonstrating the quality of its courses. With over 20,000 students (including about 4,200 in the DISC distance learning program), more than 300 professorships and over 3,000 employees, RPTU is the second largest university in Rhineland-Palatinate. The 160 existing degree programs from 16 faculties ranging from architecture to psychology to economics offer a wide range of opportunities. The campus on the edge of the Palatinate Forest impresses with open spaces with quality of stay, numerous offers in the field of sports and health, and a rich program of events from culture to entertainment.

Faculties of the Kaiserslautern Campus

University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern

The University of Kaiserslautern is present in the West Palatinate with three locations. Around 6,300 students are enrolled in Kaiserslautern, Pirmasens and Zweibrücken.

Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences is a university for applied sciences with a specialist focus on technology, business, design and health, as well as computer science as an integrated cross-sectional competence. In addition to traditional face-to-face courses, the university also offers dual courses in cooperation with regional businesses (KOSMO). Around 6,300 students from more than 80 nations and around 150 professors learn, teach and research in five departments at the study locations in Kaiserslautern, Pirmasens and Zweibrücken (see picture). The educational institution, which emerged in 1996 from a department of the former Rhineland-Palatinate University of Applied Sciences, offers its students state-of-the-art teaching and working spaces in three historical locations. In Pirmasens and Zweibrücken the university buildings are located on former barracks, in Kaiserslautern the site of the former worsted spinning mill has been converted into a university location with a lot of amenity.

Distance and Independent Studies Center (DISC)

With almost 4,200 students, the DISC at TU Kaiserslautern is one of the largest providers of postgraduate distance learning courses in Germany.

The “Distance and Independent Studies Center” (DISC) at the University of Kaiserslautern is one of the leading providers of postgraduate distance learning courses in Germany. The institution has more than 25 years of experience in the development and design of academic offers for guided self-study. At the moment, almost 4,200 academics use the courses offered by the DISC for their further training as the basis for their further professional careers – more than at any other comparable distance learning institute in Germany. Over 80% of participants in a DISC distance learning course successfully complete their studies – an unusually high success rate.

Administration and Business Academy Kaiserslautern (VWA)

Since 1955, the VWA has made it its goal to give employees the opportunity to study while working and thus counteract the shortage of skilled workers with well-trained employees.

The Administration and Business Academy Kaiserslautern (german short: VWA) offers working people the opportunity to continue their education alongside their daily work. The offer includes both business and administrative science courses with a diploma degree.

In 6 semesters, the lecturers at the VWA – university lecturers, college lecturers and managers – impart knowledge to students that prepares them for professional specialist and management tasks. In doing so, the lecturers, who work part-time at the VWA, contribute their experience and competencies from research, teaching and practice.
