Teaching and Research
The Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern (RPTU) is a research university with international visibility. Teaching and research of the highest quality according to the recognized international standards of the respective disciplines is central to the self-image of the RPTU. Six central fields have emerged in the context of internal research. When looking for a suitable external research partner for your project, the Department of Technology and Innovation (RTI) is a central contact at RPTU Kaiserslautern.
Applied research and teaching
Teaching and research at the University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern is interdisciplinary, application-specific. This ensures the future viability of the university at three locations with its specific range of courses and covers a wide range of socially relevant topics. In addition to internal research projects, in which the Research and Project Coordination Department assists, Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences also supports the search for suitable external research partners with the Business and Transfer Department.
Artificial Intelligence
At the Kaiserslautern site, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence deals in particular with the areas of embedded intelligence, augmented reality, innovative factory systems, intelligent networks and smart data & knowledge services.
Technological and business math
Mathematics is the core of every computer simulation and base of virtual models. The Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics sees its task in further developing this key technology, providing impulses and implementing it with industrial partners.
Software systems
Software systems are increasingly pervading our daily lives. The Max Planck Institute for Software Systems carries out basic research in this field. This includes language design, analysis, modeling, implementation and evaluation of software systems.

Biotechnology
Based on over 40 years of experience in fungal biotechnology and natural product research, the Institute for Biotechnology & Active Substance Research works with molecular biological systems for pharmaceutical and agricultural applications.
Layer analysis
The Institute for Surface and Layer Analysis creates high-precision micro and nano-range analyzes for companies and other research institutions to characterize surfaces and other layers in order to support them in a practical manner.
Testing Technology
The testing and research institute Pirmasens e.V., which was originally founded for the shoe industry and has developed into a world wide operating, modern service and research center for different applications, is located in the "shoe-city" in the South-West Palatinate.
Photonics
The focus of the Photonics Center Kaiserslautern e.V. is on laser micromachining with ultra-short pulses - from beam source development to process control and tailor-made measurement technology.
