Post Stations

Post Stations

Already with the foundation of the postal system horses played a very important role in the economy and transportation. They were used for that, either as a draught animal for stagecoaches or also only a single rider to transport and thus deliver the mail.
In so-called post stations there was the possibility to change the horses and thus to ensure a fast and smooth delivery. Such old post stations also existed in the West Palatinate. Even today, (former) buildings such as the Posthalterei Frankenstein, the Posthalterei Landstuhl (Didiersches Herrenhaus) and the Old Posthalterei Bruchmühlbach-Miesau remind of these important stations.

Rückepferde

Rückepferde

Until the end of the Second World War, the "Rückepferde" were mainly used in the timber industry. The cold-blooded horses are characterized by their robustness, strength and high will to work, and because of their power they are well suited to pull heavy logs out of impassable forests.
As the forestry industry today again pays more attention to the protection of the forest, "Rückepferde" are again increasingly used in the timber industry and often replace the heavy forest machines.

Zweibrücken State Stud

Zweibrücken State Stud

As early as 1755, the Zweibrücken State Stud was founded by Duke Christian IV. Since then it has seen several evacuations during war years, as well as a reconstruction by Napoleon I. Over the years, the State Stud has developed into a performance center for equestrian sports, which is also home to an EU insemination station for coordinated inseminations.
